Objective: To investigate reasons why parents purchase prepackaged, processed meals and associations with parental cooking self-efficacy, meal-planning ability, and home food availability.
Methods: This secondary data analysis uses Healthy Home Offerings via the Mealtime Environment Plus study data from parents of children aged 8-12 years (n = 160). Associations between reasons why parents purchase prepackaged, processed meals and the outcomes were assessed with chi-square, Fisher exact, and t tests.
Results: The most frequently endorsed reasons for purchasing prepackaged, processed meals included lack of time (57%) and family preferences (49%). Five of 6 reasons were associated with lower parental cooking self-efficacy and meal-planning ability. Some reasons were associated with less-healthful home food environments; few reasons varied by socio-demographic characteristics.
Conclusions and implications: Because lower cooking self-efficacy and meal-planning ability are associated with most reasons reported for purchasing prepackaged, processed meals, strategies to increase these attributes for parents of all backgrounds may reduce reliance on prepackaged processed meals for family mealtimes.
Unlike the other meal plans, any meals from your Herky Booster Pack remaining at the end of the summer or fall semesters will roll over to the next semester, and do not expire until the end of the spring semester. Multiple Herky Booster Packs can be purchased.

Students who are sick should not pick up their own meals to avoid spreading illness to the campus community. Additionally, they should never provide their ID card to anyone, as they are non-transferable.
The individual designated to pick up the meal needs to show a paper or electronic copy of the completed form to the entrance host at a campus dining hall. The location they visit needs to be in the same neighborhood where the ill student is residing. This includes all-you-care-to-eat dining halls as well as Grab & Go dining halls in Holden and Holmes. The individual picking up the meal will be asked to show their MSU ID as well. For your safety, store to-go meals in a refrigerator until eaten.
A declining balance meal plan does not provide a set number of meals per week. Instead, you receive a certain amount of meal points at the beginning of the semester to spend. The number of meals this will get you depends on your specific eating habits and the type of food you like to eat. Larger meal plans will provide you with more meal points to start the semester. Our Silver Meal Plan is our most common plan and is designed to provide the average student with up to 10 meals per week on campus. Many students purchase a larger plan to provide more meals and snacks.
Students who are interested in transferring meal points to the Food Security Fund can do so at the end of the Fall and Spring Semester. You can transfer 25 or 50 meals points. To transfer points please fill out the form here. If you would like to be considered to transfer a larger number of points please email diningservices@wustl.edu.

K-State's on-campus food has once again landed in the Top 20 nationwide. T he Princeton Review's " The Best 386 Colleges " has ranked K-State's campus food at No. 8 in its 2023 issue. It's pretty rare for campus meals to be made from scratch on location. The quality and convenience of Housing and Dining Services' dining centers make a meal plan smart for all K-Staters; not just on-campus residents. We offer meal plans for Jardine Apartments residents, off-campus students and K-State faculty and staff. You can eat at Derby or Kramer dining center, both of which are just a few minutes from either side of campus. Both locations are "all you care to eat," and offer a diverse selection of meal options to choose from daily.
Plan expires on the last day of each semester. Unused meals, including Bonus Meals, will not transfer to the following semester.Off-campus students can also purchase a summer meal plan which is made available to purchase during the spring semester.
To find the cost difference, I priced out the expense of two meals from EveryPlate, my favorite cheap meal kit service, against the cost of groceries needed to make the same two recipes. The difference was about a buck, and probably closer to even, if you factor in the gas needed to get to the store. 041b061a72
